New Zealand and Australian Division

Formed in Egypt January 1915. The New Zealand Brigade was detached to the Suez area 26 January 1915. The Division landed on Gallipoli 25 April 1915, here it served until withdrawn back to Egypt December 1915. While in Egypt the Division was reorganised. The Mounted Brigades left the Division and joined the Australian and New Zealand Mounted Division. The Division wa now made up to strength with New Zealand troops and renamed the New Zealand Division.

Mounted Units

 

New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade. (Did not land at Gallipoli until May 1915, where it served dimounted). Joined the Australian and New Zealand Mounted Division when the New Zealand and Australian Division was reorganised.

Wellington Mounted Rifles. Jan 1915 - Mar 1916. With the Brigade to the Australian and New Zealand Mounted Division.
Canterbury Mounted Rifles. Jan 1915 - Mar 1916. With the Brigade to the Australian and New Zealand Mouted Division.
Auckland Mounted Rifles. Jan 1915 - Mar 1916. With the Brigade to the Australian and New Zealand Mounted Division.
Otago Mouted Rifles. Apr 1915 - Feb 1916. Was used to form the New Zealand Pioneer Bn.

New Zealand Brigade. (Remained with the division on reorganisation and became the 1st New Zealand Brigade).

1st Bn Wellington Regt. Jan 1915 - Mar 1916. Remained with the Brigade after reorganisation. (A Company form the Ceylon Planters Rifle Corps was attached to the Bn Nov 1914, this Coy was transfered to Corps Troops).
1st Bn Canterbury Regt. Jan 1915 - Mar 1916. Remained with the Brigade after reorganisation.
1st Bn Auckland Regt. Jan 1915 - Mar 1916. Remained with the Brigade after reorganisation.
1st Bn Otago Regt. Jan 1915 - Mar 1916. Remained with the Brigade after reorganisation.

 

 

4th Australian Brigade. Left the Division Feb 1916 and joined the 4th Australian Division.

When the Division was reorganised the Artillery Brigades were also reorganised, both brigades went to serve with the New Zealand Division.
